We
believe that Jesus instructed all believers to continue His mission by
engaging and loving the people of their communities as missionaries.
We are instructed to "be in the world" and serve the city in
the hope of winning the city for the name of Jesus.
We
believe we are also "called out" to have different values
and principles from the world. This means we seek to create a
community within a community. One that is not isolated but one that is
in the heart of the community yet seeking to retain our Biblical
identity.

Calvary's
focus for overseas mission is the Maharashtra region of India. In many
ways Maharashtra stands out among all the states of India. It's name
literally means "The Great State" and is the 3rd largest
state in India with a population of 96 million people. Hinduism is the
largest religion (80.4%), followed by Islam (10%), Buddhism (6.2%),
Jainism (1.6%) and Christians (1.2%). It's capital is Mumbai. Below
are some of things Calvary is involved with in bringing the gospel to
Maharashtra: |
 |
Sian
Davies is a Southampton University graduate and is working in Mumbai.
She is working in an orphanage sharing the love of Christ. Please keep
her in your prayers! You can read her blog entries here |
 |
This
is Akshay and Bhagyashri and they are from Maharashtra. They are not
only prayerfully supported but our financial giving means that they
get to hear the gospel, get a quality
education (including learning English), have school uniforms, medical
care and a daily meal. |
 |
 |
Calvary
also prayerfully and financially supports Abraham and Ravi, two young
pastors in the Maharashtra
region.
Both men were born
into Hindu families and experienced the love of Christ in an amazing
way. |
 |
| Even
though Maharashtra has a long association with Christianity with
Dominican and Franciscan missionaries arriving in the 1300s there are
still 73% of the states postal codes that are without resident
Christian missionaries. Today many tribal groups remain unreached.
Abraham's
and Ravi's
pictures have been altered to preserve their identity because of the
strong, and often violent anti-Christian opposition in Maharashtra.
PLEASE
PRAY FOR THE SALVATION OF MAHARASHTRA! |
|
| In
addition to our focus of Maharashtra,
Calvary also supports: |
 |
In
2008 we sent out one of our own to serve as 2nd Officer on board
ship whilst serving with The Seaman's
Christian Friend Society. Today
well over a million men and women live in the twilight world of big
shipping. It's a lonely life. They roam the world's oceans for up to
12 months at a time. They come from more than 100 different nations
and speak dozens of languages. Richard has a heart to reach out to
these people to be their friend, lend them a sympathetic ear and share
the Good news of the Gospel of Jesus. |

Calvary
Chapel Cousins Cove,
Jamaica is an outreach of Calvary Chapel South London. In 2009 we
started to support this church planting project with financial and
prayer support.
Jamaica
is a country filled with scattered neighborhoods and broken down shack
houses. Although there are a lot of churches, most people feel that
they cannot go because they cannot afford smart clothes.
The
team desire for barriers to be broken down, walls to be rebuilt, the
Word of God to be taught and the love of Christ to be shed abroad.
